Workshop on “Advance Surveying using Total Station”
Apr 3, 2023 - Apr 4, 2023
The Department of Civil Engineering 0rganized the two days workshop on “Advance Surveying using Total Station”, in collaboration with IEI (Institute of Engineer), under the forum FORCE (Fraternity of Rising Civil Engineers) and on 03.04.2023 and 04.04.2023. This workshop provided the opportunity to the students to use Total Station. A total station or TST (total station theodolite) is an electronic/optical instrument used in modern surveying and building construction. The total station is an electronic theodolite (transit) integrated with an electronic distance meter (EDM) to read slope distances from the instrument to a particular point. Robotic total stations allow the operator to control the instrument from a distance via remote control. This eliminates the need for an assistant staff member as the operator holds the reflector and controls the total station from the observed point. For workshop students were divided into groups (10 students per group) and each group performed the task to use total station in the ground. After practical work students learned to conclude all the practical work in a map using Auto CAD.
The Chief Guest of the program Dr. Ramis M.K., Principal, PACE, emphasized the importance of learning beyond curriculum to meet the challenges and requirements of the industry. Dr. Palakshappa K., Professor and Head of Civil Engineering, highlighted the importance of software courses in acquiring the Knowledge and Skills as part of outcome based education. Mr. Nanda Kishore, Western Surveys and Consultant was the resource person for the two days’ workshop on 3rd & 4th April 2023.
Prof. Chethan K was the staff coordinate for this event. Mr. Aman Sanah & Ms. Fatimath Hanna was the student coordinators. Ms. Mariyam Aleena, narrated the program. All the faculty and students have actively participated in the two days programme. The certificates were distributed to all the participants.
