An Expert Talk was organized by the Department of Training & Placement in association with the Centre for Professional & Organisational Development, under the aegis of ISTE BRANCH on the Topic “Global Supercomputing Wars: Learnings to Accelerate Our Careers!” by Dr. SAIF ABRAR, Advisory Systems Engineer, IBM to the teaching and nonteaching faculty members of PACE on 19th Sep 2022 in multipurpose hall at 10.45 AM. 

The Principal Dr, Ramis MK, gave an introductory remark. Prof. Muhammad Zakir, IEE college coordinator, from Depart. Of ECE addressed the resource person. 

Dr. Saif Abrar is an HPC/supercomputer leader in IBM and passionate about academic collaborations. The presentation started by briefing out the need of new architectures in computer, network, storage, etc, explained about how IBM has been working with partners like NVIDIA and MELLANOX to achieve the new architectures, emphasized about “SUMMIT the supercomputer”, its capabilities, its massive bandwidth, its capacity to ingest and analyse the large data sets, introduced the participants about the new chip-off era, like GPU’s and FPGA’s. The webinar then illustrated how china is planned the first exascale supercomputer by 2020, how U.S Department of Energy and Intel announced the first “exaFLOP” high performance supercomputer by 2022/2023. 

Finally, the webinar gave the introduction to open cloud-based platforms like open POWER research facility and SUPERVESSEL to develop GPU optimized power applications. The program was well received Prof. Mohammed Hussain proposed Vote of Thanks. Heena Kausar P.A from the Department of Training and Placement mastered the ceremony.
