A project team of final year mechanical engineering students (Mr. Mahammad Azwin, Mr. Rifaz Ahammed B, Mr. Samjeed and Mr. Shiek Afthab Davood) has designed and fabricated an E-Bicycle under the guidance of Prof. C V Pujar, Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering department. The project was aimed to increase the speed of the bicycle and use a battery technology to obtain higher efficiency for single charge. Users of the E-bicycle can take the advantage of reduced maintenance, improved efficiency, reduced heat and noise. The project uses brushless DC motors, Lithium-ion battery, electric controllers, pedal assist speed sensor, etc. for its operation.
The project bagged the second place in the department level project exhibition ‘KAUSHAL’ held at P.A. College of Engineering, Mangalore, under the banner of ISTE-PACE Chapter and selected as the best project out of the 12 projects identified at the institute level for the ‘Financial Assistance for Final Year Students Innovative Projects Scheme 2022’ of VTU Belagavi. The project was nominated to the VTU supported State Level Engineering Students Project Expo (Srishti 2022) based on IR4/Idea and Business Pitch/Hackathon held at BMS College of Engineering, Basavanagudi, Bangalore, from 25th – 27th July 2022. The project received a good response and appreciation from the visitors and the evaluators in the first round of the expo. The project was also selected for the second round along with the other limited number of projects identified in the area of automobile/e-vehicles.
