WEBINAR WEEK 2020 (29th June 2020 - 4th July 2020) Day 6: 04.07.2020

Department of Civil Engineering organised Webinar Week 2020 (29th June 2020 - 4th July 2020) under the banner of FORCE (Fraternity Of Rising Civil Engineers). The 6th day webinar was conducted on 4th July 2020 on ZOOM platform along with video live streaming on YouTube. The resource person Dr. Sandeep J Naik presented the topic on GROUND WATER AND SMALL-SCALE IRRIGATION IMPLICATIONS.

Groundwater is the major source of drinking water in both urban and rural India. Besides, it is an important source of water for the agricultural and the industrial sector. Water utilization projections for 2000 put the groundwater usage at about 50%. Being an important and integral part of the hydrological cycle, its availability depends on the rainfall and recharge conditions. The demand for water has increased over the years and this has led to water scarcity in many parts of the world.

The session was started on time by the host without any technical delay. Dr. Palakshappa K, Professor and HOD, Civil Engineering, PACE, welcomed the speaker and all the participants. Er. Yathish H, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering, PACE was the host and the coordinator of 6th day webinar introduced the resource person and the topic. Prof. Sandeep J Naik presented the topic in magnificent manner. He explained the significance of Ground Water which includes various aspects such as Earths Hydrosphere, Occurrence of ground water, ground water systems, ground water hydrology, Aquifers etc. Later he explained small scale irrigation and implications and also details of study he has done in Uttara Kannada district. Finally, Professor concluded the session with his Ph.D. work (Measurement of Evapotranspiration for irrigation suitability) which helped farmers as well as society.

Professor presented the topic in effective way by including papers, graphs and pictures which captured the attention of attendees towards the seminar. Host of the day played key role in handing all the issues smoothly during the session.

It was wonderful opportunity to acquire lot of information regarding Ground Water and Small-Scale irrigation implications. Finally, the session was concluded by vote of thanks by Er.Yathish H, Assistant Professor Civil Engineering.
