Invited talk on Energy Losses and Energy Auditing in a Distribution System
Nov 25, 2019 - Nov 25, 2019
The department of Electrical and Electronics conducted a one day invited talk on Energy Losses and Energy Auditing in a Distribution System on 25th November 2019 under Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (AEEE). The invited talk was inaugurated by resource person of the day Mr. U. Upendra Kini, Superintending Engineer (Ele), HRD Center, MESCOM (Retd). The Head of the department Prof. John Valder welcomed the gathering.
Mr. Upendra Kini during the session discussed the occurrence of technical losses from the generating station to the consumers in transformers during step up and step down process, transmission, sub transmission, distribution and low distribution network. He stressed the need to have a rigorous law to prevent non-technical losses such as inadequate billing, faulty metering and theft of power which otherwise lead to revenue loss. To assess the energy loss and to make the distribution system more efficient, reliable both technically and financially, a comprehensive energy audit at company level, division level, feeder level, city and town, distribution transformer units. He demonstrated a theoretical calculation to show the revenue fall due to all the components of energy losses.
The faculty members of the department were present for the entire session. The session was arranged for all the Electrical and Electronics students and was conducted in the edusat hall. Ms. Ashmila T K compered the programme. Prof. Sleeba Mathew proposed the vote of thanks.
