The Department of Civil Engineering, P.A College of Engineering, Mangalore, organized a successful waste management awareness drive at Pajiru Grama Panchayat on October 9, 2024, as part of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) activity under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).

The event aimed to educate residents on effective waste management practices, promoting a cleaner and healthier environment. Under the guidance of Prof. Jameela, Prof. Chethan K, and Prof. Safa Sanah, students from the Civil Engineering department took the initiative to spread awareness and make a positive impact on the community.

The awareness drive began with a house-to-house campaign, where students visited residences and shops, emphasizing the importance of separating dry and wet waste. This was followed by a village cleanliness drive, where students stressed the need for maintaining clean villages. The students also visited the Panchayat to observe the existing waste management systems and processes.

Mr. Mohammed Ali, Waste Collection and Management In-charge, shared expert insights on waste management processes, providing valuable information to the students and residents. The local authorities, including Mr. Abdul Ameen, Pajiru Panchayat Member, extended their support to the initiative, accompanying the students during the awareness drive.

Through this event, the students successfully sensitized residents on proper waste disposal, fostering community involvement in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment. The outcome of the awareness drive was overwhelmingly positive, with residents demonstrating enthusiasm for adopting better waste management practices.
