International Conference on Emerging Trends in Biotechnology 2024 (BIOTRENDCON-24) held under the umbrella of ICEST-24

The International Conclave on Engineering Science and Technology-2024 (ICEST-24) commenced with a grand inauguration ceremony at P. A. College of Engineering, Mangalore, featuring six conferences covering various engineering disciplines, on April 23, at P.A College of Engineering Campus. Among these, the International Conference on emerging trends in Biotechnology (BIOTRENDCON-24) was held under the umbrella of ICEST-24, representing the Biotechnology Department. ICEST-24 comprised six conferences covering different engineering disciplines, namely MECH-TECH, IC-ICE, DIGITREV-24, SEMI-COMM TECH SUMMIT, BIOTRENDCON, and ICIBS. The inaugural event commenced with an Invocation by Abdul Abdu Samad, followed by a welcoming speech by Dr. Shareefraju J. Ukkund, the Convener of ICEST-24, and a preamble address by Dr. Sharmila Kumari, emphasizing the significance of the research environment. The Chief Guest, Mr. Sohan M., Senior Manager at Infosys, Mangalore, highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary approaches. Dr. P. Nagabhushan, VC of Vignan University, AP, delivered the keynote address focusing on the 5As in engineering and the convergence of various engineering disciplines through ICEST. Conference proceedings were released, with addresses from distinguished guests including Managing Trustee Mr. Abdullah Ibrahim, who emphasized the commitment of PACE Group to research. Dr. Ramis M. K., General Chair of ICEST-24 and Principal of PACE, also delivered presidential remarks. The program included faculty, students, and delegates from various institutions, concluding with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Krishna Prasad N., Chair of BIOTRENDCON and HOD of the Biotechnology Department.

Keynote Speaker – Day1: On the first day of BIOTRENDCON, Dr. Monika Sadananda, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Biosciences at Mangalore University, took the stage as the keynote speaker. Her presentation, titled "Immunotherapeutic Approaches to Disease Treatment: Prospects and Challenges," delved into the transformative potential of utilizing antigens and antibodies in curing severe illnesses such as cancer. Dr. Sadananda eloquently emphasized the pivotal role of biotechnology in shaping the present and future trajectory of the human race. Her insights underscored the significance of ongoing research efforts in harnessing biotechnological advancements to combat diseases and improve global health outcomes. Dr. Sadanandas address resonated deeply with attendees, igniting discussions on the innovative strategies and ethical considerations inherent in the field of immunotherapy. Oral Presentations: Following the lunch break, external participants, research scholars, and final year students actively engaged in presenting their research findings during the allocated track 1-3 slots, which continued until 4:30 PM. The sessions were punctuated with refreshment breaks, providing attendees with opportunities to network, exchange ideas, and recharge for the ensuing presentations. Throughout the afternoon, the diverse array of presentations showcased the breadth and depth of research endeavors spanning various disciplines within biotechnology. Attendees eagerly absorbed the insights shared, fostering a dynamic atmosphere of collaboration and knowledge exchange. 

Keynote Speaker – Day2: Continuing the momentum of Day 2 at BIOTRENDCON, Dr. Syed Usman Taqui, a distinguished Post-Doctoral Researcher from King Abdullah University of Science & Technology -KAUST in Saudi Arabia, graced the event as the International Keynote Speaker. Dr. Taqui delivered an illuminating presentation on "Novel Therapeutic Green Solvents based Nanoemulsions by Innovative Membrane Emulsification Technique for Biomedical Applications." In his address, Dr. Taqui elucidated the transformative potential of nanoemulsions in the development of membranes with nano pores, offering novel solutions for diverse biomedical applications. Furthermore, he emphasized the indispensable role of Nano biotechnology in shaping a brighter future for humanity, underscoring the need for continued exploration and innovation in this burgeoning field. Dr. Taquis insights resonated deeply with participants, sparking thought-provoking discussions and reflections on the pivotal intersection of nanotechnology and biomedicine. 

Oral Presentation - 1: The second day commenced with a series of engaging oral presentations by participants, spanning research conducted at the PhD, Masters, and undergraduate levels. Attendees had the opportunity to delve into a spectrum of innovative projects and scholarly endeavors, ranging from cutting-edge doctoral research to insightful undergraduate studies. These presentations, interspersed with refreshing breaks, facilitated lively discussions and knowledge sharing among peers. As participants showcased their findings, the event continued to serve as a platform for fostering intellectual exchange and collaboration within the biotechnology community.

BIOTRENDCON concluded with the Valedictory Program on April 24, noon with notable addresses by various dignitaries including Dr. Palakshappa, Chair, IC-ICE, who delivered the Welcome Speech, and Dr. Prashanth Pai, Co-Chair, ICEST 24, who presented a comprehensive report on the events highlights. Mr. Zubair Ibrahim, Trustee, GC Member & Trustee, P. A. Educational Trust (PAET) highlighted the institutions commitment to innovation. Chief Guest Dr. A. M. Khan, Director, Skill Development Centre, Mangalore University, discussed post COVID trends in AI and encouraged research-focused education. Dr. Surendra Kumar, Pro VC, Presidency University, shared insights on the future of engineering education and entrepreneurship. The ceremony also featured addresses by esteemed guests of honors including Mr. Ahmed Kutty, Director of Finance at P. A. College of Engineering, Mangalore; Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal of P. A. First Grade College, Mangalore; and Dr. Sajeesh Regunathan, Principal of P. A. Institute of Physiotherapy, Mangalore, Dr. Shivakumar Gowda, SDMCET, Dharwad. Dr. Ramis M K, delivered the Presidential Remarks and Dr. Sharmila Kumari, extended thanks to all contributors. Additionally, certificates were distributed to Chairs, Conveners, Participants, and all organizers, acknowledging their valuable contributions to the successful ICEST 24 conclave.
